MCipollini Carbon MonoCoque

The monocoque MCipollini is totally handcrafted, created with lovely attention by the designer. Small traces of this accurate realization could seem imperfections for shallow eyes. They are instead the proof of the excellence that make unique and inimitable every single MCipollini’s frame.

The Fibers used

The textiles used in the construction process are pre-impregnated with epoxy resins and are subsequently inspected to ensure that the resin content is the same on all parts. Three kinds of fibers have been used to construct the frames, all with very high performance mechanical features to guarantee uncompromised aesthetics and surfaces

Frame construction

The cut textiles are rolled in the female mold using the following procedures: - pre-defined number of layers - automatic plotter - use of templates After rolling, vacuum treatment makes the structure compact by eliminating any air between the fibres and ensuring perfect adhesion between the layers. This process, which takes place in an autoclave with a homogeneously heated mold and pre-determinated gradient ramp pressurization, guarantees perfect product cleaning in a 210 minute cycle

At first sight, the RB1000 looks more like a time trial chassis than a road frame, such are the number of aerodynamic features. From the leading edge of the head tube to the fork blades, and the rear-wheel-following seat tube, drag cheating designs rule.

In keeping with the flamboyant character of the Lion King, and former fastest sprinter in the world, everything about the RB1000 shouts ‘look at me!’ It looks appropriately brash, bold and aggressive, making quite a statement.

Curiously, this version of the frame only has one set of bottle bosses, which must have made extra work for whoever had to collect the drinks during the race. Production models will have provision for two cages.

The down tube is heavily shaped around the fork crown and front wheel, changing from a triangular aero section into a massive square shape by the bottom bracket, swallowing the BB30 shell and giving enormous rigidity.

The RB1000’s geometry and tube shapes make it apparent this bike has a single purpose – to go fast. The down tube is shaped around the front wheel for aero efficiency, the seat tube curving around the rear to complement the front, and the super-shallow head tube (127mm on our 56cm test bike) gives a really low front end.

With an oversized, tapered 1½-1¼in head tube to keep the front end planted, this is a machine with a seriously aggressive position. On the road the RB1000 has a superb ability to hold onto speed.

 The RB1000’s riding position feels close to a full-on time trial bike that just happens to have a standard drop bar, but the handling is more akin to a road bike, with a longer and shallower fork slowing down the steering and eliminating toe overlap. The massively oversized head tube and steerer combo creates a taut bike that’s brilliant at holding its line and is great fun to ride hard
